Database hosting selections were guided by availability, durability, and scalability requirements—leveraging Amazon RDS for managed, resilient databases and EC2 for flexible compute. Core AWS services, including EBS, VPC, S3, ELB, and Direct Connect, provided secure, high-performing infrastructure.
Identity and access management was addressed by deploying cross-account IAM roles with temporary credentials, enforced MFA, and centralized logging via AWS CloudTrail. Access was provisioned through role-based SSO portals with auditable session tracking, while internal and customer network devices were protected by robust SOPs and multi-factor authentication. All customer data, including business and personal information, was encrypted using Oracle Transparent Data Encryption, with keys managed via wallet/keystore both at the database and storage layer.
Migration of Oracle workloads was achieved using a hybrid Data Guard setup—enabling real-time data replication and near-zero downtime cutover from on-premises to AWS. Automated migration processes utilized AWS Database Migration Service, VM import/export, and Snowball for large data transfers.
Detective controls were implemented by maintaining log and event retention for security and performance monitoring via CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs, ELB logs, and S3 bucket logging, in compliance with customer-defined retention policies. ISO9001 and CMMI Level 3 standards, along with internal security SOPs, ensured protection of both partner and customer systems from attack.
The availability architecture leveraged multiple AWS Availability Zones and Oracle Data Guard for resilient, failover-ready database deployments. Cascaded DataGuard configurations provided tertiary DR and continuous health monitoring. Automated remediation was set up for service interruptions, addressing hardware, deployment, credential, and infrastructure-related risks.
Cost optimization was ensured through continuous billing and spend monitoring with AWS cost management tools. A dedicated FinOps team reviewed usage and aligned resources for migration and ongoing Oracle database support, maximizing cloud value.
